Narrative:

The crew was en route to greensboro, nc, via lyh VORTAC and the henby STAR. We were discussing the problems we encountered during the flight inspection of the davison GS, and going overhead lyh we failed to turn to the proper heading to join the arrival. I thought I had loaded and activated the STAR in our trimble GPS but apparently had not. ATC queried us as to whether we were on the arrival, and we made the proper course correction. No traffic conflicts were noted by ATC nor our TCASII equipment. One of the human factors involved was crew composition. I had a new hire pilot and a fairly inexperienced airborne technician. Our discussion during the en route portion of the flight was about an out of tolerance condition we found on the flight check of the GS.
