Narrative:

We were cleared for takeoff on runway 27 at XA10. We were on tower frequency 118.3. Ground control (121.65) cleared 2 B727's to cross runway 27 at the same time. 1 B727 (at the approach end of runway 9) saw us and held short. 1 B727 crossed at taxiway south and caused a conflict. I executed a high speed reject at approximately 110 KTS. No collision occurred. After 79 mins of brake cooling time, the flight proceeded to destination. ATC procedures need to be strengthened to preclude such occurrences in the future. I suggest a lighted board or panel in the tower. When tower clears an aircraft for takeoff, the runway should be highlighted in red. The ground controller could then visually see that the runway could not be crossed safely. Supplemental information from acn 403369: one of the contributing factors is aircraft on or crossing the runway on separate frequencys. Neither pilot was aware of the other's clearance.

Title: A DC10-30F CAPT ABORTS A TKOF AT 110 KIAS WHEN HE OBSERVES A B727 FREIGHTER XING THE TKOF RWY 27 AT TXWY S. THE 2 FLTS WERE ON SEPARATE FREQS.

Narrative: WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF ON RWY 27 AT XA10. WE WERE ON TWR FREQ 118.3. GND CTL (121.65) CLRED 2 B727'S TO CROSS RWY 27 AT THE SAME TIME. 1 B727 (AT THE APCH END OF RWY 9) SAW US AND HELD SHORT. 1 B727 CROSSED AT TXWY S AND CAUSED A CONFLICT. I EXECUTED A HIGH SPD REJECT AT APPROX 110 KTS. NO COLLISION OCCURRED. AFTER 79 MINS OF BRAKE COOLING TIME, THE FLT PROCEEDED TO DEST. ATC PROCS NEED TO BE STRENGTHENED TO PRECLUDE SUCH OCCURRENCES IN THE FUTURE. I SUGGEST A LIGHTED BOARD OR PANEL IN THE TWR. WHEN TWR CLRS AN ACFT FOR TKOF, THE RWY SHOULD BE HIGHLIGHTED IN RED. THE GND CTLR COULD THEN VISUALLY SEE THAT THE RWY COULD NOT BE CROSSED SAFELY. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 403369: ONE OF THE CONTRIBUTING FACTORS IS ACFT ON OR XING THE RWY ON SEPARATE FREQS. NEITHER PLT WAS AWARE OF THE OTHER'S CLRNC.
