Narrative:

On taxi in, B757 was damaged by jetway when marshalling agent marshalled or signaled the pilot to continue taxi when the pilot should have been held until the jetway was repositioned. Upper surface of left engine cowling was dented, left engine had been shut down prior to arriving at gate. Conditions were clear, sunny, daylight, dry pavement and long straight-in taxi to gate. Ground crew was not ready/briefed for early arrival. Jetway was not positioned for next arrival. Use of 2L door to deplane aircraft in close proximity to left engine should be reconsidered. Wing walkers were present but failed to notify marshaller of impending engine/jetway contact.
