Narrative:

Received ATC clearance as B417 B418 bombay. B417 was our clearance, but not continuing on B418 which stops before arriving in bombay. We were originally flight planned for B417 talma UL300 alpex UL300 mct B415 marob R219E sumos direct. We made the mistake of 'assuming' that B417/B418 was 'as filed.' ATC told us of our error and corrected our routing, however, to a dead end airway. After many changes, vectors, reinstalling waypoints we received a clearance we could follow. Don't 'assume' that the first leg of your clearance as being the same as 'as filed.'
