Narrative:

Our transponder code in our clearance was XXXX. On cockpit setup I accidentally set in xxyy. On climb out, ATC asked us to identify and told us to squawk XXXX -- xxyy was assigned to another air carrier and this confused the controller. To my knowledge, no conflict occurred. Corrective action would be to pay closer attention to the assigned code and checklist.
