Narrative:

Started pushback with forward cargo door open. Read checklist without paying attention. When we noticed the door light I notified ground crew who moved instantly to close door. We were starting right engine. I didn't think quickly enough to abort start, which meant that ground crew was in 'zone of death.' minor oversight could have become a tragedy.

Title: FLC FAILED TO NOTICE THAT THE FORWARD CARGO OPEN LIGHT WAS ON PRIOR TO PUSHBACK RESULTING IN GND CREW RUNNING PAST AN ENG TO SHUT DOOR DURING THE STARTING OF THAT ENG.

Narrative: STARTED PUSHBACK WITH FORWARD CARGO DOOR OPEN. READ CHKLIST WITHOUT PAYING ATTN. WHEN WE NOTICED THE DOOR LIGHT I NOTIFIED GND CREW WHO MOVED INSTANTLY TO CLOSE DOOR. WE WERE STARTING R ENG. I DIDN'T THINK QUICKLY ENOUGH TO ABORT START, WHICH MEANT THAT GND CREW WAS IN 'ZONE OF DEATH.' MINOR OVERSIGHT COULD HAVE BECOME A TRAGEDY.
