Narrative:

We noticed a smell after we pwred off the gate. As we were on taxiway K about to turn onto taxiway left, the flight attendants notified us that they had smoke in the cabin. We started a turn back to the gate and I told ground that we were an emergency going back to the gate and to roll the fire trucks as we approached the gate about 200 ft out. The flight attendants called and said that they had toxic smoke in the cabin and could not breathe. I told ground we would evacuate here on the ramp and again to roll the fire trucks. I set the parking brake and we started the emergency evacuate/evacuation checklist. After its completion the first officer followed the passenger outside. I took the megaphone and swept the cabin and went outside to evaluate the situation. All of the passenger were away from the aircraft and walking up the jetbridge. The ground response including the fire truck response and agent/ramp response was excellent. I also noted that there was a 6 by 6 pool of skydrol under the tailcone area. Supplemental information from acn 594765: myself, with numerous ramp, maintenance, and customer service personnel filed passenger up jetbridge stairs of gate. Supplemental information from acn 595007: as I approached the rear of the aircraft, I noticed a toxic smell. Passenger complained that they couldn't breathe. Smoke/gas continued to get much thicker and toxic. Captain came over PA saying, 'evacuate.'
