Narrative:

Assigned FL370 wrong way by ZDV while east of hgo for smoother ride over the rockies. Approaching pga we received a TA of traffic at our altitude 12:30 to 1 O'clock position. We spotted the aircraft's strobes and a few seconds later received an RA to descend. Disconnected the autoplt and autothrottles and began a 1500-2000 FPM descent. At 36600 ft TCASII went to 'monitor vertical speed' and showed level flight as minimum rate of descent. Began to level at 36300 ft, TCASII called 'clear of conflict.' due to frequency congestion we could not tell ZDV of our RA descent until well into the descent. ATC stated 'no conflict' and reassigned us to FL350 for the remainder of the flight.

Title: APPARENT LOSS OF SEPARATION BTWN B737 AND AN OPPOSITE DIRECTION ACR AT THE ALT, FL370.

Narrative: ASSIGNED FL370 WRONG WAY BY ZDV WHILE E OF HGO FOR SMOOTHER RIDE OVER THE ROCKIES. APCHING PGA WE RECEIVED A TA OF TFC AT OUR ALT 12:30 TO 1 O'CLOCK POS. WE SPOTTED THE ACFT'S STROBES AND A FEW SECONDS LATER RECEIVED AN RA TO DSND. DISCONNECTED THE AUTOPLT AND AUTOTHROTTLES AND BEGAN A 1500-2000 FPM DSCNT. AT 36600 FT TCASII WENT TO 'MONITOR VERT SPD' AND SHOWED LEVEL FLT AS MINIMUM RATE OF DSCNT. BEGAN TO LEVEL AT 36300 FT, TCASII CALLED 'CLR OF CONFLICT.' DUE TO FREQ CONGESTION WE COULD NOT TELL ZDV OF OUR RA DSCNT UNTIL WELL INTO THE DSCNT. ATC STATED 'NO CONFLICT' AND REASSIGNED US TO FL350 FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE FLT.
