Narrative:

At FL370 center asked if we can make our requested altitude, FL410, in 3 mins. The captain tells me to say yes. I realize it will be close, and acknowledge center. Center clears us to FL410. I acknowledge and punch my clock, the captain uses a speed reduction immediately and maximum continuos power to try and make it. At XX30 on my clock and passing about FL400, center gives us a left turn and says 'you never could make it in 3 mins, could you?' or something to that effect. With the turn we leveled in 4 mins. We didn't get quite the performance we thought we would get, but never had the chance to advise center we would be a little late.
