Narrative:

On may/xx/96, I assisted another mechanic replacing the #3 r- hand maintenance entry door slide. This was an aircraft being brought back into service from the desert. The replacement door slide and applicable paperwork were all prepared for us when we arrived for our shift. We replaced the slide per the maintenance manual. At the time we understood the slide to be the correct part number for the aircraft. The slide we installed was identical to the slide removed. Recently in hawaii the slide was checked and found to be the wrong slide for the aircraft.
