Narrative:

Cessna X was cleared to land runway 35 with a right base entry after following I-15 northbound (it seemed like a late call to start the base). Cessna X turns base and is just turning final for runway 35 when tower tells us to square the turn to final because of a plane they are having trouble getting off of the runway 35. Tower then responds with a call for X to turn in for the numbers but it still appears to us (X) that the plane is still on the runway. Note: at salt lake city, the tower cannot see the runway in question. We note a plane holding to the west of runway 35 and another to the east of runway 35 and decide that there is not much room for error and call a go around. We don't know how close we came to either plane holding short but the pilot of the west holding plane said over the frequency that we came pretty close and was obviously upset. Our plane (a C310C) was a bit sluggish on the go around because of the relatively high altitude which probably added to the proximity of our plane to the ones on the ground.

Title: A C310 WAS CLRED FOR APCH TO RWY 35 WITH A R BASE ENTRY AND TOLD TO SQUARE OFF HIS APCH FOR AN ACFT ON THE RWY. RPTR FELT THE SIT WAS TOO CLOSE AND EXECUTED A GAR AND DURING THE GAR PASSED OVER AN ACR B727 HOLDING CLR OF THE RWY. THE ACR FLC WAS UPSET AND VOICED THEIR DISPLEASURE ON THE FREQ.

WE DON'T KNOW HOW CLOSE WE CAME TO EITHER PLANE HOLDING SHORT BUT THE PLT OF THE W HOLDING PLANE SAID OVER THE FREQ THAT WE CAME PRETTY CLOSE AND WAS OBVIOUSLY UPSET. OUR PLANE (A C310C) WAS A BIT SLUGGISH ON THE GAR BECAUSE OF THE RELATIVELY HIGH ALT WHICH PROBABLY ADDED TO THE PROX OF OUR PLANE TO THE ONES ON THE GND.
