Narrative:
Aircraft #1 was level at FL240. Aircraft #2 checked on the frequency climbing to FL230, on a similar (southwesterly) course. Aircraft #2 was issued climb to FL270. Unrelated coordination caused a distraction, and the position of both aircraft was not monitored. The computerized 'conflict alert' redirected attention to the conflict. Vectors were issued (aircraft #1: 180 degrees, aircraft #2: 260 degrees) to regain standard separation.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: RPTED LOSS OF SEPARATION BTWN 2 CLBING ACR B737'S ON SIMILAR COURSES.
Narrative: ACFT #1 WAS LEVEL AT FL240. ACFT #2 CHKED ON THE FREQ CLBING TO FL230, ON A SIMILAR (SOUTHWESTERLY) COURSE. ACFT #2 WAS ISSUED CLB TO FL270. UNRELATED COORD CAUSED A DISTR, AND THE POS OF BOTH ACFT WAS NOT MONITORED. THE COMPUTERIZED 'CONFLICT ALERT' REDIRECTED ATTN TO THE CONFLICT. VECTORS WERE ISSUED (ACFT #1: 180 DEGS, ACFT #2: 260 DEGS) TO REGAIN STANDARD SEPARATION.
