Narrative:

We were cleared to taxi via taxiway south to taxiway a down taxiway a to cross the approach end of runway 27 to parking. We read back the clearance and proceeded. Upon crossing runway 27, my first officer and I noticed an aircraft in the takeoff position for runway 9. Our first impression was that the aircraft was waiting for us to cross. We continued to cross and as we exited the runway we noticed the aircraft was actually on takeoff roll.
