Narrative:

Crew of previous flight reported landing with both lavatory smoke detectors going off and the smell of burnt oil. This was entered in maintenance log by previous captain. Maintenance worked on the aircraft from XA00 to XE40 and aircraft was signed off for service. Soon after rotation we noticed an odor similar to burnt oil and a few seconds later, flight attendants reported haze in cabin. We declared an emergency and returned to cmh. Total air time was 8 mins. Airport fire crew was requested. Landing was uneventful, cleared runway and stopped aircraft on taxiway and requested an external visual inspection of aircraft by fire crew. No irregularities were noticed. Taxied to gate. Expedited passenger deplaning through jetway. Logbook entry was made of the event.
