Narrative:

Departing runway 24 at ttn, I was advised 'when speed and altitude permit, turn left 15 degrees due to departing learjet.' I turned left 15 degrees at 500 ft MSL, then realized the turn took me outside the clear zone and over some houses near the end of the runway. Rather than turn back into the lear's path, I continued my climb. Because the runway is at 200 ft MSL, I was therefore not at a sufficient altitude over the houses. Solution: in the future, check altimeter and ground features before turning.

Title: PLT OF C172B INSTRUCTED TO TURN 15 DEGS WHEN ABLE ON DEP DUE TO FOLLOWING ACFT, TURNS TOO SOON AND FLIES OVER NEARBY HOUSES.

Narrative: DEPARTING RWY 24 AT TTN, I WAS ADVISED 'WHEN SPD AND ALT PERMIT, TURN L 15 DEGS DUE TO DEPARTING LEARJET.' I TURNED L 15 DEGS AT 500 FT MSL, THEN REALIZED THE TURN TOOK ME OUTSIDE THE CLR ZONE AND OVER SOME HOUSES NEAR THE END OF THE RWY. RATHER THAN TURN BACK INTO THE LEAR'S PATH, I CONTINUED MY CLB. BECAUSE THE RWY IS AT 200 FT MSL, I WAS THEREFORE NOT AT A SUFFICIENT ALT OVER THE HOUSES. SOLUTION: IN THE FUTURE, CHK ALTIMETER AND GND FEATURES BEFORE TURNING.
