Narrative:

While in our descent to bos, the center controller asked us to maintain 280 KTS. We were later asked to descend to an altitude below 10000 ft. This, if not caught in time, could have caused us to exceed 250 KTS below 10000 ft.

Title: FLC OF A CANADAIR REGIONAL JET, CL65, BELIEVED THAT THEY CAUGHT AN ATC ERROR DURING DSCNT WHEN ATC HAD THEM MAINTAIN 280 KTS ABOVE 10000 FT, BUT DID NOT SPECIFICALLY REMOVE THE RESTR WHEN SUBSEQUENTLY CLRING THEM BELOW 10000 FT. SINCE THE FLC APPARENTLY TOOK IT UPON THEMSELVES TO SLOW TO 250 KTS AIRSPD, THEY THOUGHT THAT ATC HAD FORGOTTEN TO REMOVE THE SPD REF.
