Narrative:

Visual approach into ontario on a 45 degree extended dogleg, descending to 3000 ft. At about 8 mi, handed IFR from approach to tower. TCASII showed uncorrelated aircraft at 2 O'clock position and 3 mi. Turned left slightly, tower announced traffic at same time we see high wing, retracted gear, cessna doing a hard left turn. Reported traffic in sight and continued to land. Had TCASII not alerted us, I would not have turned slightly left (away) and the traffic could have been very close. I like TCASII.
