Narrative:

We were taxiing from the gate to the active runway. I (captain) thought the active runway was runway 27L. We were cleared to taxi to the runway. We had a mechanical problem (left engine limiter light came on and left eec light came on). The first officer was busy with the abnormal checklist. I looked both ways as we crossed runway 9L/27R. After crossing, we realized that we had crossed an active runway without a clearance. We then called ground. They had us contact the tower. The tower cleared us to back taxi to runway 9L into position. No communication was transmitted on the radio about the error. No conflict.
