Narrative:

We were climbing to cleared altitude of FL270. Approaching FL230, we were given an immediate left 30 degree turn for traffic. Next an air carrier aircraft was also given a 30 degree left turn for traffic. As we began our turn we received a 'climb crossing climb' RA from our TCASII. The vsi commanded a climb increase to approximately 1800 FPM. The first officer visually spotted 'intruder' aircraft and verified distance of approximately 3 NM at cpa, as indicated on TCASII display. Our altitude at cpa was approximately 23500 ft (approximately 500 ft above other aircraft). I felt that ATC should have recognized conflict earlier and was glad to have TCASII equipment on board.

Title: LOSS OF LATERAL VERT SEPARATION BTWN AN ACR B737 APCHING FL230 IN A CLB TO FL270 AND ANOTHER ACR AT FL230.

Narrative: WE WERE CLBING TO CLRED ALT OF FL270. APCHING FL230, WE WERE GIVEN AN IMMEDIATE L 30 DEG TURN FOR TFC. NEXT AN ACR ACFT WAS ALSO GIVEN A 30 DEG L TURN FOR TFC. AS WE BEGAN OUR TURN WE RECEIVED A 'CLB XING CLB' RA FROM OUR TCASII. THE VSI COMMANDED A CLB INCREASE TO APPROX 1800 FPM. THE FO VISUALLY SPOTTED 'INTRUDER' ACFT AND VERIFIED DISTANCE OF APPROX 3 NM AT CPA, AS INDICATED ON TCASII DISPLAY. OUR ALT AT CPA WAS APPROX 23500 FT (APPROX 500 FT ABOVE OTHER ACFT). I FELT THAT ATC SHOULD HAVE RECOGNIZED CONFLICT EARLIER AND WAS GLAD TO HAVE TCASII EQUIP ON BOARD.
