Narrative:

While taxiing from exit point we were instructed to hold short of runway 27 at taxiway B. We acknowledged the 'hold short' and waited for further clearance. After several aircraft landed and departed on runway 9, we were instructed to 'expedite' our taxi across runway 27 at taxiway B. After passing the hold line but prior to crossing the runway we were instructed to hold our position. After stopping short of the runway we acknowledged the hold and informed the controller we were past the hold line but not yet on the runway. The controller acknowledged the transmission. A light aircraft landed and taxied clear. The controller then asked if we could taxi 'around the corner' to taxiway V2 back to taxiway V. We told him we would have to enter the runway to do that. At this point there was a B727 on short final and we did not feel we had time to taxi as requested. I then told the controller we probably did not have wingtip clearance for the landing traffic and the B727 should be sent around. The ground controller acknowledged the call. We observed the B727 going around shortly thereafter. Had the controller allowed us to continue our taxi we would have cleared the runway without any problems. Controller seemed unconcerned that we were so close to the runway with traffic about to land.

Title: LGT ACFT HOLDING SHORT OF RWY WAS CLRED TO EXPEDITE ACROSS, BUT JUST AS ACFT STARTED MOVING TWR CTLR TOLD FLC TO HOLD. BY THEN THE ACFT WAS OVER THE HOLD LINE AND WITH LIGHT ACFT ON SHORT FINAL APCH. AFTER LIGHT ACFT LANDED RPTR CAPT WAS UNCOMFORTABLE WITH SEPARATION BTWN A SECOND LNDG ACFT, A B727, AND ASKED TWR TO HAVE APCHING B727 GAR.

Narrative: WHILE TAXIING FROM EXIT POINT WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 27 AT TXWY B. WE ACKNOWLEDGED THE 'HOLD SHORT' AND WAITED FOR FURTHER CLRNC. AFTER SEVERAL ACFT LANDED AND DEPARTED ON RWY 9, WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO 'EXPEDITE' OUR TAXI ACROSS RWY 27 AT TXWY B. AFTER PASSING THE HOLD LINE BUT PRIOR TO XING THE RWY WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO HOLD OUR POS. AFTER STOPPING SHORT OF THE RWY WE ACKNOWLEDGED THE HOLD AND INFORMED THE CTLR WE WERE PAST THE HOLD LINE BUT NOT YET ON THE RWY. THE CTLR ACKNOWLEDGED THE XMISSION. A LIGHT ACFT LANDED AND TAXIED CLR. THE CTLR THEN ASKED IF WE COULD TAXI 'AROUND THE CORNER' TO TXWY V2 BACK TO TXWY V. WE TOLD HIM WE WOULD HAVE TO ENTER THE RWY TO DO THAT. AT THIS POINT THERE WAS A B727 ON SHORT FINAL AND WE DID NOT FEEL WE HAD TIME TO TAXI AS REQUESTED. I THEN TOLD THE CTLR WE PROBABLY DID NOT HAVE WINGTIP CLRNC FOR THE LNDG TFC AND THE B727 SHOULD BE SENT AROUND. THE GND CTLR ACKNOWLEDGED THE CALL. WE OBSERVED THE B727 GOING AROUND SHORTLY THEREAFTER. HAD THE CTLR ALLOWED US TO CONTINUE OUR TAXI WE WOULD HAVE CLRED THE RWY WITHOUT ANY PROBS. CTLR SEEMED UNCONCERNED THAT WE WERE SO CLOSE TO THE RWY WITH TFC ABOUT TO LAND.
