Narrative:

First officer was hand flying and leveling off at 12000 ft. As captain, I was distracted by looking for traffic that had been pointed out by departure control. The altitude alert came on and our altitude reached 12400 ft briefly before it was corrected. There were no known traffic conflicts and departure control did not say anything.
