Narrative:

New procedure on the arthur kill 1 departure out of ewr. Now it says to intercept a radial, instead of hold heading. I didn't read the whole departure text for our transition. ATC corrected us and said we were not the only culprits to make this mistake since the new procedure came out. Suggest that text be added to ACARS clearance or to tower's takeoff clearance to intercept the solberg 100 degree radial on departure. Perhaps chart could be made more readable as well.

Title: B727 FAILED TO INTERCEPT THE SBJ 100 DEG RADIAL WHILE FLYING THE ARTHUR KILL SID WITH THE PARKE TRANSITION OUT OF EWR. RPTR SAYS THE CHART OF THIS NEW SID IS COMPLEX AND HARD TO READ. A LATER REVISION MAKES IT MUCH CLRER THAT THE RADIAL IS TO BE INTERCEPTED.

Narrative: NEW PROC ON THE ARTHUR KILL 1 DEP OUT OF EWR. NOW IT SAYS TO INTERCEPT A RADIAL, INSTEAD OF HOLD HDG. I DIDN'T READ THE WHOLE DEP TEXT FOR OUR TRANSITION. ATC CORRECTED US AND SAID WE WERE NOT THE ONLY CULPRITS TO MAKE THIS MISTAKE SINCE THE NEW PROC CAME OUT. SUGGEST THAT TEXT BE ADDED TO ACARS CLRNC OR TO TWR'S TKOF CLRNC TO INTERCEPT THE SOLBERG 100 DEG RADIAL ON DEP. PERHAPS CHART COULD BE MADE MORE READABLE AS WELL.
