Narrative:

Flight iah-lax jul/xa/97. After landing and clear of all runways, we were cleared to proceed eastbound on taxiway B to hold short of taxiway C8. Subsequently were cleared to the gate to yield to a B737. The nearest aircraft to our position was an emb commuter plane abeam terminal Z wbound on taxiway C. I rounded the corner on taxiway C8 thinking the B737 was behind us on taxiway C. In fact, the referenced B737 was abeam terminal Z and not moving. Our entry point to the ramp was northbound on taxiway C8 across taxiway C to the ramp between terminals X and Y. The position of the B737 was never pointed out to us that I recall. The first officer does not recall seeing a B737 at all. After crossing taxiway C the ground controller queried us as to why we did not hold for the B737. I had no excuse, there were no moving airplanes within 300 yards of our position when I crossed taxiway C and I made the decision to cross at the time since there were no moving B737's either eastbound or wbound on taxiway C. Ground was particularly busy and I thought it would be more expeditious to continue to the gate rather than block eastbound taxiway B or taxiway C8. The referenced B737 passed abeam our position on taxiway C wbound after we had blocked in at the gate approximately 2 mins after I crossed taxiway C. I got chided for trying to expedite operations.

Title: MLG ACFT TAXIING WAS TOLD TO YIELD FOR A B737. RPTR CAPT STATES THAT HE THOUGHT THE B737 WAS BEHIND HIM ON THE TXWY AND RPTR DIDN'T SEE THE ACFT. BECAUSE OF FREQ CONGESTION AND UNABLE TO CLARIFY, RPTR TAXIED INTO THE GATE. GND CTLR QUESTIONED HIM WHY HE DIDN'T FOLLOW THE YIELD INSTRUCTIONS.

Narrative: FLT IAH-LAX JUL/XA/97. AFTER LNDG AND CLR OF ALL RWYS, WE WERE CLRED TO PROCEED EBOUND ON TXWY B TO HOLD SHORT OF TXWY C8. SUBSEQUENTLY WERE CLRED TO THE GATE TO YIELD TO A B737. THE NEAREST ACFT TO OUR POS WAS AN EMB COMMUTER PLANE ABEAM TERMINAL Z WBOUND ON TXWY C. I ROUNDED THE CORNER ON TXWY C8 THINKING THE B737 WAS BEHIND US ON TXWY C. IN FACT, THE REFED B737 WAS ABEAM TERMINAL Z AND NOT MOVING. OUR ENTRY POINT TO THE RAMP WAS NBOUND ON TXWY C8 ACROSS TXWY C TO THE RAMP BTWN TERMINALS X AND Y. THE POS OF THE B737 WAS NEVER POINTED OUT TO US THAT I RECALL. THE FO DOES NOT RECALL SEEING A B737 AT ALL. AFTER XING TXWY C THE GND CTLR QUERIED US AS TO WHY WE DID NOT HOLD FOR THE B737. I HAD NO EXCUSE, THERE WERE NO MOVING AIRPLANES WITHIN 300 YARDS OF OUR POS WHEN I CROSSED TXWY C AND I MADE THE DECISION TO CROSS AT THE TIME SINCE THERE WERE NO MOVING B737'S EITHER EBOUND OR WBOUND ON TXWY C. GND WAS PARTICULARLY BUSY AND I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE MORE EXPEDITIOUS TO CONTINUE TO THE GATE RATHER THAN BLOCK EBOUND TXWY B OR TXWY C8. THE REFED B737 PASSED ABEAM OUR POS ON TXWY C WBOUND AFTER WE HAD BLOCKED IN AT THE GATE APPROX 2 MINS AFTER I CROSSED TXWY C. I GOT CHIDED FOR TRYING TO EXPEDITE OPS.
