Narrative:

Right engine failure, declared emergency and requested return to ont. Return and landing normal, except company sent ACARS message, requesting return to lax -- 10 mins further. FARS require return to nearest airport for 2 engine aircraft. We landed ont, our departure point and nearest suitable airport. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated the aircraft was a B757-200 pwred by P&west 2307 engines. The reporter related the engine was shut down due to loss of power and did not have any feedback from maintenance as to cause. Reporter said the engine was changed in ont. The reporter was not contacted by the FAA.

Narrative: R ENG FAILURE, DECLARED EMER AND REQUESTED RETURN TO ONT. RETURN AND LNDG NORMAL, EXCEPT COMPANY SENT ACARS MESSAGE, REQUESTING RETURN TO LAX -- 10 MINS FURTHER. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THE ACFT WAS A B757-200 PWRED BY P&W 2307 ENGS. THE RPTR RELATED THE ENG WAS SHUT DOWN DUE TO LOSS OF PWR AND DID NOT HAVE ANY FEEDBACK FROM MAINT AS TO CAUSE. RPTR SAID THE ENG WAS CHANGED IN ONT. THE RPTR WAS NOT CONTACTED BY THE FAA.
