Narrative:

About 2 hours and 50 mins into the flight, the premium flight attendant came into the cockpit and informed me that they were having a problem with a woman who was smoking in the aft lavatory. She said the woman denied smoking, however, many passenger and another flight attendant had noticed the smoke when she came out of the lavatory. I instructed her to inform the woman not to do it again and the consequences that it could have both for safety reasons and the fact that it was against the law. A few mins later, the premium flight attendant came up and said that while the woman who was smoking was still denying that she had, another woman traveling with her was becoming very abusive over the incident and that it was getting out of hand. I went to the cabin to see if I could defuse the situation and help the woman understand the importance of not smoking, especially in the lavatory. The woman who had been smoking would say nothing to me, however, her companion continued to be abusive and would not listen to anything I had to say. She admitted to me that while the other woman had been smoking that she did not know it was a no smoking flight. When I asked her to explain to her to not smoke again she basically told me that I shouldn't be telling her anything and she refused to listen. She was getting very aggressive at this point. I told the flight attendants to stay clear of them and to keep an eye on them in case they tried to smoke again. I then called dispatch and requested the auths to meet the flight on arrival.

Narrative: ABOUT 2 HRS AND 50 MINS INTO THE FLT, THE PREMIUM FLT ATTENDANT CAME INTO THE COCKPIT AND INFORMED ME THAT THEY WERE HAVING A PROB WITH A WOMAN WHO WAS SMOKING IN THE AFT LAVATORY. SHE SAID THE WOMAN DENIED SMOKING, HOWEVER, MANY PAX AND ANOTHER FLT ATTENDANT HAD NOTICED THE SMOKE WHEN SHE CAME OUT OF THE LAVATORY. I INSTRUCTED HER TO INFORM THE WOMAN NOT TO DO IT AGAIN AND THE CONSEQUENCES THAT IT COULD HAVE BOTH FOR SAFETY REASONS AND THE FACT THAT IT WAS AGAINST THE LAW. A FEW MINS LATER, THE PREMIUM FLT ATTENDANT CAME UP AND SAID THAT WHILE THE WOMAN WHO WAS SMOKING WAS STILL DENYING THAT SHE HAD, ANOTHER WOMAN TRAVELING WITH HER WAS BECOMING VERY ABUSIVE OVER THE INCIDENT AND THAT IT WAS GETTING OUT OF HAND. I WENT TO THE CABIN TO SEE IF I COULD DEFUSE THE SIT AND HELP THE WOMAN UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF NOT SMOKING, ESPECIALLY IN THE LAVATORY. THE WOMAN WHO HAD BEEN SMOKING WOULD SAY NOTHING TO ME, HOWEVER, HER COMPANION CONTINUED TO BE ABUSIVE AND WOULD NOT LISTEN TO ANYTHING I HAD TO SAY. SHE ADMITTED TO ME THAT WHILE THE OTHER WOMAN HAD BEEN SMOKING THAT SHE DID NOT KNOW IT WAS A NO SMOKING FLT. WHEN I ASKED HER TO EXPLAIN TO HER TO NOT SMOKE AGAIN SHE BASICALLY TOLD ME THAT I SHOULDN'T BE TELLING HER ANYTHING AND SHE REFUSED TO LISTEN. SHE WAS GETTING VERY AGGRESSIVE AT THIS POINT. I TOLD THE FLT ATTENDANTS TO STAY CLR OF THEM AND TO KEEP AN EYE ON THEM IN CASE THEY TRIED TO SMOKE AGAIN. I THEN CALLED DISPATCH AND REQUESTED THE AUTHS TO MEET THE FLT ON ARR.
