Narrative:

We left san IFR to VFR on top and proceeded inbound on a practice search mission for the cap. We called ATC to return to sna and the controller stated we entered R2503. Both myself and my observer feel that this is incorrect. However, if so, it was unintentional. Nzj was closed and there was no military traffic. We proceeded to sna and made an uneventful ILS approach.
