Narrative:

I was giving an instrument competency check to a fellow member of my flying club. I was in the right seat and using a garmin GPS-90 to remain clear of class B airspace nearby. After performing airwork, I cleared the other pilot to a nearby VOR. I looked at a chart to plan the next maneuver. Meanwhile, he set up the omni bearing selector for reverse sensing and turned away from the VOR, heading for class B airspace. I called dulles approach for TA's, then looked down at my GPS and noticed we had entered class B. As the controller radar idented us, we both got to watch my airplane exit class B on our respective map displays! (He had no comment.) this is the second time that I have been distracted while a student has made a slow turn in an unintended direction. I need to watch them more carefully!
