Narrative:

Departing sjc just before late night the first officer and I misread the pre departure clearance. The filed route is printed just below the ATC clearance and we both did not read it closely. We both read loupe 9 departure in the filed clearance and interpreted it to be as filed. We should have read san jose 8 departure panoche transition (pxn) clovis (czq) then as filed. When vectored to clovis we questioned ATC and discovered our error. There was no conflict and the aircraft was within a few degrees of the correct track at all times.
