Narrative:

On apr/sun/97, I was en route from tul to pwa in a BE76 on a training flight. I was showing my student a full shutdown of the right engine. After feathering and securing the engine, we attempted a restart. The restart was unsuccessful. After going through the emergency checklist, we confirmed that the right engine was not going to restart. I canceled our IFR flight plan and asked for the nearest suitable airport. After an uneventful landing we taxied to the ramp area and shutdown. After checking the fuel and sumping the lines for fuel contamination and other possible problems, and at that point found nothing abnormal. I then restarted the right engine and everything checked normal and green. After refueling for extra reserves, we taxied for departure and completed a normal run-up and I determined the plane airworthy and departed for an uneventful flight back to wiley post. After landing I notified maintenance. I attributed the cause of the problem to the feathered propeller, leaving it in the feathered position too long, causing the oil to become too cold to unfeather it.

Title: BE76 TRAINING FLT DIVERTS TO ALTERNATE ARPT WHEN UNABLE TO UNFEATHER AND RESTART THE R ENG. IT HAD BEEN SHUT DOWN FOR DEMONSTRATION PURPOSES TO TRAINEE. COLD, CONGEALED OIL WAS THE PROB.

Narrative: ON APR/SUN/97, I WAS ENRTE FROM TUL TO PWA IN A BE76 ON A TRAINING FLT. I WAS SHOWING MY STUDENT A FULL SHUTDOWN OF THE R ENG. AFTER FEATHERING AND SECURING THE ENG, WE ATTEMPTED A RESTART. THE RESTART WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. AFTER GOING THROUGH THE EMER CHKLIST, WE CONFIRMED THAT THE R ENG WAS NOT GOING TO RESTART. I CANCELED OUR IFR FLT PLAN AND ASKED FOR THE NEAREST SUITABLE ARPT. AFTER AN UNEVENTFUL LNDG WE TAXIED TO THE RAMP AREA AND SHUTDOWN. AFTER CHKING THE FUEL AND SUMPING THE LINES FOR FUEL CONTAMINATION AND OTHER POSSIBLE PROBS, AND AT THAT POINT FOUND NOTHING ABNORMAL. I THEN RESTARTED THE R ENG AND EVERYTHING CHKED NORMAL AND GREEN. AFTER REFUELING FOR EXTRA RESERVES, WE TAXIED FOR DEP AND COMPLETED A NORMAL RUN-UP AND I DETERMINED THE PLANE AIRWORTHY AND DEPARTED FOR AN UNEVENTFUL FLT BACK TO WILEY POST. AFTER LNDG I NOTIFIED MAINT. I ATTRIBUTED THE CAUSE OF THE PROB TO THE FEATHERED PROP, LEAVING IT IN THE FEATHERED POS TOO LONG, CAUSING THE OIL TO BECOME TOO COLD TO UNFEATHER IT.
