Narrative:

Hobby tower asked me to taxi to runway 12R at taxiway K for departure (intersection departure). I taxied to the intersection, but instead of turning right onto runway 12R (after takeoff clearance was given), I, in error, turned left and took off on runway 30L. I crossed runway 22 on which the tower had just cleared a lear jet for takeoff. The lear was 3500 ft from the intersection of runways 30L and 22 when I went through the intersection. During the takeoff run, I discovered my error, but elected to continue the takeoff instead of trying to stop and risk running off the end of the runway. Once in the air, I advised the tower controller that I had made a mistake and I needed to return to the airport and talk to him. Contributing factors in this error: first time flying the updated model of this type aircraft -- grumman tiger (model AR5B). Devoting too much attention to aircraft checklist and not enough attention to my position on the airport. Failure to stop and verify all instructions and procedures prior to accepting takeoff clearance. Corrective action: reverify ATC instructions. Assure familiarity with new model aircraft. Check directional gyroscope with assigned takeoff runway heading.

Title: GRUMMAN TIGER ACFT GIVEN TKOF CLRNC FROM INTXN, PLT TURNED WRONG DIRECTION ON RWY AND TOOK OFF IN OPPOSITE DIRECTION OF CLRNC. DURING TKOF ROLL ANOTHER ACFT WAS ON TKOF ROLL FROM XING RWY, BUT RPTR CONTINUED TKOF BECAUSE OF CONCERN THAT ABORTING MAY RUN THE RISK OF RUNNING OFF THE END RWY.

Narrative: HOBBY TWR ASKED ME TO TAXI TO RWY 12R AT TXWY K FOR DEP (INTXN DEP). I TAXIED TO THE INTXN, BUT INSTEAD OF TURNING R ONTO RWY 12R (AFTER TKOF CLRNC WAS GIVEN), I, IN ERROR, TURNED L AND TOOK OFF ON RWY 30L. I CROSSED RWY 22 ON WHICH THE TWR HAD JUST CLRED A LEAR JET FOR TKOF. THE LEAR WAS 3500 FT FROM THE INTXN OF RWYS 30L AND 22 WHEN I WENT THROUGH THE INTXN. DURING THE TKOF RUN, I DISCOVERED MY ERROR, BUT ELECTED TO CONTINUE THE TKOF INSTEAD OF TRYING TO STOP AND RISK RUNNING OFF THE END OF THE RWY. ONCE IN THE AIR, I ADVISED THE TWR CTLR THAT I HAD MADE A MISTAKE AND I NEEDED TO RETURN TO THE ARPT AND TALK TO HIM. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS IN THIS ERROR: FIRST TIME FLYING THE UPDATED MODEL OF THIS TYPE ACFT -- GRUMMAN TIGER (MODEL AR5B). DEVOTING TOO MUCH ATTN TO ACFT CHKLIST AND NOT ENOUGH ATTN TO MY POS ON THE ARPT. FAILURE TO STOP AND VERIFY ALL INSTRUCTIONS AND PROCS PRIOR TO ACCEPTING TKOF CLRNC. CORRECTIVE ACTION: REVERIFY ATC INSTRUCTIONS. ASSURE FAMILIARITY WITH NEW MODEL ACFT. CHK DIRECTIONAL GYROSCOPE WITH ASSIGNED TKOF RWY HEADING.
