Narrative:

We were told by ground personnel to reposition our aircraft from mco to mia. We were under the impression the aircraft was to be repositioned as a non-revenue flight and flown without a flight attendant. We flew the aircraft from mco to mia without incident. Upon arriving at mia, we were told by our base manager that we should have used a reposition dispatch release instead of a revenue dispatch release. The difference between the 2 being one of flight number only. This was an inadvertent error on the captain's part and caused in part by the ground personnel in mco that put pressure on us to move our aircraft from the gate as soon as possible. We carried no passenger or cargo on this flight.
