Narrative:

Location: 6 mi southeast of dallas stadium on the runway 31R localizer inbound to dfw on the ceeder creek 1 arrival at bells, fly heading 330 degrees to intercept runway 31R localizer presently level at 8000 ft MSL. Regional approach said to expect the stadium visual to runway 31R. We were cleared to intercept the runway 31R localizer then fly the stadium visual then cleared to intercept the runway 31R localizer and descend to 5000 ft MSL. We were then given a heading followed by another clearance to intercept runway 31R localizer, expect the stadium visual. On ATC 125.2 we checked in and were reclred the stadium visual, maintain at least 180 KTS to the stadium. We descended to 2500 ft MSL to cross over the stadium at 2500 ft MSL. Level at 2500 ft MSL we were given a heading to 310 degrees to turn behind traffic and given clearance to climb to 3000 ft MSL. I questioned the controller and the response was you were told to expect clearance for the stadium visual, no problem maintain 3000 ft MSL until abeam the love field then cleared the stadium visual. All 3 cockpit crew members reviewed the runway 31R localizer approach as well as the stadium visual well in advance, and we all heard that we were finally cleared the stadium visual approach. I think transitioning back and forth between cleared to intercept the runway 31R localizer then cleared to fly the stadium visual, fly this heading, reintercept runway 31R localizer then expect clearance to fly stadium visual, frequency change to 125.2 followed by the same exercise again, led up to what seemed like an altitude excursion to the controller and a clearance acknowledged by the crew as cleared finally to fly the stadium visual. I feel this kind of operation is unsafe and totally unacceptable so close to the airport even on a VFR day.

Title: APCH CTLR GAVE MULTIPLE CLRNCS TO RPTR FLC. FROM STADIUM VISUAL TO ILS APCH AND BACK AND FORTH BTWN THE 2 CREATED CONFUSION FOR BOTH THE FLC AND THE CTLR. MIXUP ON ALT CLRNC WHEN CLRED FOR A VISUAL.

Narrative: LOCATION: 6 MI SE OF DALLAS STADIUM ON THE RWY 31R LOC INBOUND TO DFW ON THE CEEDER CREEK 1 ARR AT BELLS, FLY HDG 330 DEGS TO INTERCEPT RWY 31R LOC PRESENTLY LEVEL AT 8000 FT MSL. REGIONAL APCH SAID TO EXPECT THE STADIUM VISUAL TO RWY 31R. WE WERE CLRED TO INTERCEPT THE RWY 31R LOC THEN FLY THE STADIUM VISUAL THEN CLRED TO INTERCEPT THE RWY 31R LOC AND DSND TO 5000 FT MSL. WE WERE THEN GIVEN A HDG FOLLOWED BY ANOTHER CLRNC TO INTERCEPT RWY 31R LOC, EXPECT THE STADIUM VISUAL. ON ATC 125.2 WE CHKED IN AND WERE RECLRED THE STADIUM VISUAL, MAINTAIN AT LEAST 180 KTS TO THE STADIUM. WE DSNDED TO 2500 FT MSL TO CROSS OVER THE STADIUM AT 2500 FT MSL. LEVEL AT 2500 FT MSL WE WERE GIVEN A HDG TO 310 DEGS TO TURN BEHIND TFC AND GIVEN CLRNC TO CLB TO 3000 FT MSL. I QUESTIONED THE CTLR AND THE RESPONSE WAS YOU WERE TOLD TO EXPECT CLRNC FOR THE STADIUM VISUAL, NO PROB MAINTAIN 3000 FT MSL UNTIL ABEAM THE LOVE FIELD THEN CLRED THE STADIUM VISUAL. ALL 3 COCKPIT CREW MEMBERS REVIEWED THE RWY 31R LOC APCH AS WELL AS THE STADIUM VISUAL WELL IN ADVANCE, AND WE ALL HEARD THAT WE WERE FINALLY CLRED THE STADIUM VISUAL APCH. I THINK TRANSITIONING BACK AND FORTH BTWN CLRED TO INTERCEPT THE RWY 31R LOC THEN CLRED TO FLY THE STADIUM VISUAL, FLY THIS HDG, REINTERCEPT RWY 31R LOC THEN EXPECT CLRNC TO FLY STADIUM VISUAL, FREQ CHANGE TO 125.2 FOLLOWED BY THE SAME EXERCISE AGAIN, LED UP TO WHAT SEEMED LIKE AN ALT EXCURSION TO THE CTLR AND A CLRNC ACKNOWLEDGED BY THE CREW AS CLRED FINALLY TO FLY THE STADIUM VISUAL. I FEEL THIS KIND OF OP IS UNSAFE AND TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE SO CLOSE TO THE ARPT EVEN ON A VFR DAY.
