ATC facility: ord tower. Location: ord runway 27L. Upon lift- off, leading edge slat assembly light on EICAS (engine indication and crew alerting system). Followed operations manual procedures, no joy. Dumped fuel and held to burn off more. Verified with dispatch and air carrier technician that climb limit and runway limit overweight landing limits for flaps 20 degrees were good. Landed ord runway 32L, no problems, smooth touchdown.
