Narrative:

Taxiing to the full length of runway 25R for takeoff, a commuter aircraft ahead of us was given clearance for takeoff. After the commuter aircraft acknowledged the takeoff clearance, we were issued a clearance to taxi into position and hold on runway 25R. Approximately 1 min on the runway we heard an aircraft announce that they were going around. After the tower controller acknowledged the aircraft going around, he told us we were cleared to hold short on runway 25R only. I recall hearing the controller issue a taxi into position and hold on runway 25R and the first officer acknowledging the clearance. I do not recall hearing hold short instructions. Supplemental information from acn 359949: an L1011 was cleared across runway 25R. A hold short instruction in this case would not have been necessary and in this case could be potentially confusing.
