Narrative:
Accepted aircraft at bna. Prior to flight maintenance removed cockpit pbe (protective breathing equipment-smoke hood/mask) of aircraft. There was no maintenance note of the removal and I did not discover it on the preflight. Flew the aircraft with missing 1 protective breathing equipment.

Title: B737-300 CREW FLIES FLT WITHOUT A PROTECTIVE BREATHING EQUIP DEVICE ON BOARD. MAINT HAD REMOVED IT AND FAILED TO NOTE SAME IN LOGBOOK.
Narrative: ACCEPTED ACFT AT BNA. PRIOR TO FLT MAINT REMOVED COCKPIT PBE (PROTECTIVE BREATHING EQUIP-SMOKE HOOD/MASK) OF ACFT. THERE WAS NO MAINT NOTE OF THE REMOVAL AND I DID NOT DISCOVER IT ON THE PREFLT. FLEW THE ACFT WITH MISSING 1 PROTECTIVE BREATHING EQUIP.
