Narrative:

Center gave us phx altimeter setting and clearance to descend to 12000 ft. We either read back the wrong setting or they gave us the wrong one. We descended and leveled off at what we thought was 12000 ft (altimeter setting of 30.80). When we picked up the ATIS with an altimeter setting of 29.80 we asked for a current setting, reset the altimeter and climbed back to 12000 ft. ATC never questioned us when we checked on approach frequency, descending through 16000 ft for 12000 ft, or when we leveled at 11000 ft instead of 12000 ft. To keep this from happening again we now pick up the ATIS before descending through FL180.

Title: FOKKER 70 COPIED 30 PT 80 DSNDING TO 12000 FT. SHOULD HAVE BEEN 29 PT 80. REGAINED ASSIGNED ALT. NO COMMENT FROM CTLR.

Narrative: CTR GAVE US PHX ALTIMETER SETTING AND CLRNC TO DSND TO 12000 FT. WE EITHER READ BACK THE WRONG SETTING OR THEY GAVE US THE WRONG ONE. WE DSNDED AND LEVELED OFF AT WHAT WE THOUGHT WAS 12000 FT (ALTIMETER SETTING OF 30.80). WHEN WE PICKED UP THE ATIS WITH AN ALTIMETER SETTING OF 29.80 WE ASKED FOR A CURRENT SETTING, RESET THE ALTIMETER AND CLBED BACK TO 12000 FT. ATC NEVER QUESTIONED US WHEN WE CHKED ON APCH FREQ, DSNDING THROUGH 16000 FT FOR 12000 FT, OR WHEN WE LEVELED AT 11000 FT INSTEAD OF 12000 FT. TO KEEP THIS FROM HAPPENING AGAIN WE NOW PICK UP THE ATIS BEFORE DSNDING THROUGH FL180.
