Narrative:

#1 engine went to idle. Descended FL310, attempted to find problem. Abnormal procedure. No luck. Descended to FL260, shut down and relit engine, trying to correct problem. No luck. In contact with company flight control. Decided to proceed to atl - - 2 hours 30 mins away. Why we flew past nearest suitable airport: WX along route plus airports -- bos/jfk/phl, etc, were excellent in case we lost another engine. Climbed to FL310 to atl to conserve fuel.
