Narrative:

ATC issued us a clearance for what we believed was 15 degrees to the left of course for traffic. After turning 15 degrees left and flying for about 1 min, the controller asked us what our heading was and then said that the clearance was for 15 degrees to the right and issued a new heading change of 30 degrees to the right. I asked if anyone in the cockpit had heard the clearance as being originally to the right, no one in my crew had heard it that way -- including myself, who was flying.

Title: AN ACR B727 FLC TURNED THE WRONG DIRECTION WHEN TOLD TO TURN 15 DEGS OFF THEIR PRESENT HDG. THE FLC TURNED L INSTEAD OF R. THE CTLR CORRECTED THEM.

Narrative: ATC ISSUED US A CLRNC FOR WHAT WE BELIEVED WAS 15 DEGS TO THE L OF COURSE FOR TFC. AFTER TURNING 15 DEGS L AND FLYING FOR ABOUT 1 MIN, THE CTLR ASKED US WHAT OUR HDG WAS AND THEN SAID THAT THE CLRNC WAS FOR 15 DEGS TO THE R AND ISSUED A NEW HDG CHANGE OF 30 DEGS TO THE R. I ASKED IF ANYONE IN THE COCKPIT HAD HEARD THE CLRNC AS BEING ORIGINALLY TO THE R, NO ONE IN MY CREW HAD HEARD IT THAT WAY -- INCLUDING MYSELF, WHO WAS FLYING.
