Narrative:
Taxi out in rain and dark. My first time at ewr. Did not realize we had crossed taxiway right on taxiway M until we approached edge of runway. At that point we stopped and asked for further clarification and received instructions to cross runway. Edges of taxiway right and lights were difficult to see in wet conditions. Did not see centerline markings on taxiway M at all.

Narrative: TAXI OUT IN RAIN AND DARK. MY FIRST TIME AT EWR. DID NOT REALIZE WE HAD CROSSED TXWY R ON TXWY M UNTIL WE APCHED EDGE OF RWY. AT THAT POINT WE STOPPED AND ASKED FOR FURTHER CLARIFICATION AND RECEIVED INSTRUCTIONS TO CROSS RWY. EDGES OF TXWY R AND LIGHTS WERE DIFFICULT TO SEE IN WET CONDITIONS. DID NOT SEE CTRLINE MARKINGS ON TXWY M AT ALL.
