Narrative:

ATIS wind prior to taxi was not particularly strong. As we taxied out, ground control reported new WX. No significant WX in area, but new reported wind was northwesterly at 25 gusting 31. As we taxied, I looked at the windsock by the runway and the wind was northerly, but the sock was not fully extended, and the wind did not seem as strong as reported by ground. Prior to takeoff, tower gave us the same wind reading as before. Captain made an uneventful takeoff, and said wind did not feel as strong as reported. While en route, captain checked crosswind component chart and, if tower wind would have been correct, we might have exceeded crosswind component.
