Narrative:

Tokyo control issued a clearance to cross what I thought was eddie intersection at FL170. This is the clearance I read back twice. As we approached karin intersection, ATC asked us if we were going to make this intersection at FL170. We were at about FL240 and descending at the time. It became apparent that they had wanted us at FL170 at karin not eddie as I had read back twice. No loss of separation that I know of. ATC needs to listen up to the readbacks. Often controllers in asian countries tend to just accept whatever you read back. I've been flying this area for 7 yrs and try very hard to listen to, and read back, all clrncs. However, this sort of thing due to pronunciation problems, is not uncommon. During this time we were also trying to conduct approach briefing, etc. This really adds to the confusion!
