Narrative:

The captain was in a hurry to make up time. On taxi out I was calling for the final numbers from operations and reading checklists. The captain turned off taxiway D past the hold short lines for runway 23. The tower operator advised us that we had taxied past the hold short lines for runway 28L and runway 23. Had the captain reviewed his airport diagram and not rushed he would not have taxied past the hold short point. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter aircraft was an MD80. Reporter feels the captain was in a hurry to get back to home base and should have been more patient, not rushing to such an extent. Beyond that he stated that the area is very poorly lit at night. There is no new equipment such as lighted hold bars. He stated that the controller stated they were not the first to make that mistake. This indicates some action ought to be taken to avoid a repeat of the situation.
