Narrative:

Flying the panther 3 SID out of clt. Given a heading approximately 200 degrees to fly and told to contact ZTL. Checking in with ZTL, given clearance to intercept treal transition and a climb to FL230. First officer had 180 degree radial dialed in expecting direct cae. Some confusion existed as to our clearance as ZTL called and said 'treal transition...' was the 196 degree radial off clt to join J75 off cae. We turned to intercept 196 degree radial off clt and continued on. Rechking panther 3 SID, found no panther 3 'treal transition' but there was a 'taylor transition' which did pass over the treal fix. Rechking our pre departure clearance in ACARS, I found the taylor transition on page 2 of pre departure clearance at end of clearance. 2 recommendations: 1) any transitions, route changes or special instructions should be on page 1 of pre departure clearance and included in routing section to ensure continuity of message. 2) ATC should be very aware of verbiage in clrncs. Although the fix treal was along our route and part of the taylor transition, no treal transition existed and caused us time reviewing SID for a non existing transition.

Title: AN ACR MD80 WAS GIVEN A FAULTY SID CLRNC BY ATC. TO COMPOUND THINGS, THE CREW DID NOT PLAN THE TRANSITION BECAUSE THEY DID NOT LOOK AT PAGE 2 OF THEIR PDC. FLC ERROR ADMITTED.

Narrative: FLYING THE PANTHER 3 SID OUT OF CLT. GIVEN A HDG APPROX 200 DEGS TO FLY AND TOLD TO CONTACT ZTL. CHKING IN WITH ZTL, GIVEN CLRNC TO INTERCEPT TREAL TRANSITION AND A CLB TO FL230. FO HAD 180 DEG RADIAL DIALED IN EXPECTING DIRECT CAE. SOME CONFUSION EXISTED AS TO OUR CLRNC AS ZTL CALLED AND SAID 'TREAL TRANSITION...' WAS THE 196 DEG RADIAL OFF CLT TO JOIN J75 OFF CAE. WE TURNED TO INTERCEPT 196 DEG RADIAL OFF CLT AND CONTINUED ON. RECHKING PANTHER 3 SID, FOUND NO PANTHER 3 'TREAL TRANSITION' BUT THERE WAS A 'TAYLOR TRANSITION' WHICH DID PASS OVER THE TREAL FIX. RECHKING OUR PDC IN ACARS, I FOUND THE TAYLOR TRANSITION ON PAGE 2 OF PDC AT END OF CLRNC. 2 RECOMMENDATIONS: 1) ANY TRANSITIONS, RTE CHANGES OR SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS SHOULD BE ON PAGE 1 OF PDC AND INCLUDED IN ROUTING SECTION TO ENSURE CONTINUITY OF MESSAGE. 2) ATC SHOULD BE VERY AWARE OF VERBIAGE IN CLRNCS. ALTHOUGH THE FIX TREAL WAS ALONG OUR RTE AND PART OF THE TAYLOR TRANSITION, NO TREAL TRANSITION EXISTED AND CAUSED US TIME REVIEWING SID FOR A NON EXISTING TRANSITION.
