Narrative:

Our aircraft was directed to descend from 9000 ft MSL to 4000 ft MSL between 30-40 NM from our final destination by ZID. Had started to be radar vectored and was told to expect the osu NDB runway 27L. During the latter part of the descent I was talking to my student on some part of the approach procedure, and we saw we had descended through to 3300 ft MSL. I requested 3000 ft but was told I was assigned 4000 ft. The student was distraction by our conversation, and I should not have allowed myself to be distraction by trying to 'work in' one more instructional tip. The student is in IFR training.
