Narrative:

Shortly before departure in smf an omc from air carrier requested to jump seat on flight smf-den. The captain in the left seat was being given an IOE for his transition from B737-200 to a B737-300/500 captain. I was the captain of record in the right seat as a standard's captain for air carrier. Ab asked for and received a company identify and an FAA pilot's license from the omc. On inspection these 2 forms of identify appeared to be valid and the jump seat was offered to this individual. During the flight to denver the omc explained that he was en route to fll to attend the funeral of his brother, who had been killed by a drunk driver. I sent a message to dispatch over the ACARS to inquire if we could give the omc priority on his flight from den to fla. The response from dispatch through ACARS was for the omc to contact the ord duty manager on the ground in den for priority omc to fll. I passed the printed message from dispatch to the omc, who appeared at the time to be touched by air carrier kindness. On arrival in den, a den domicile manager (yy) met the flight and asked the omc if he would mind going to the flight office for some questions. Upon entering the terminal the omc was arrested by the denver police for illegally riding a jump seat without proper authority/authorized. Initially, we were informed the omc had been fired by air carrier 'K' and was using an invalid identify. Further investigation determined the identify to be forged, and the omc had never been employed by air carrier 'K.' his FAA pilot's license, however, was valid.
