Narrative:

We were cleared for takeoff right behind an md-80 (air carrier xx). As we rolled he was just lifting off. No clearance yet for visual separation. At about 800 ft we rolled hard left, bank about 10-15 degrees with 50-75 percent aileron authority/authorized to counter the roll, also moderate turbulence in the wake. Lasted about 5 seconds. Hit it again at about 4000 ft AGL, but only a momentary roll. Separation was way too close for comfort! Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter participated in the wake turbulence structured callback study. Reporter was adamant that greater separation should have been provided for departing aircraft. Wind was calm, conditions were proper for wake to linger along any departing aircraft flight path. Reporter was mostly angry about being caught at low levels in moderate turbulence. Control was maintained throughout the event. It was long lasting for the situation which contributed to the flight crew uneasiness about what was happening.

Title: ACR B737-300 EXPERIENCES WAKE TURB AFTER LIFTOFF FROM LAX.

Narrative: WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF RIGHT BEHIND AN MD-80 (ACR XX). AS WE ROLLED HE WAS JUST LIFTING OFF. NO CLRNC YET FOR VISUAL SEPARATION. AT ABOUT 800 FT WE ROLLED HARD L, BANK ABOUT 10-15 DEGS WITH 50-75 PERCENT AILERON AUTH TO COUNTER THE ROLL, ALSO MODERATE TURB IN THE WAKE. LASTED ABOUT 5 SECONDS. HIT IT AGAIN AT ABOUT 4000 FT AGL, BUT ONLY A MOMENTARY ROLL. SEPARATION WAS WAY TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT! CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR PARTICIPATED IN THE WAKE TURB STRUCTURED CALLBACK STUDY. RPTR WAS ADAMANT THAT GREATER SEPARATION SHOULD HAVE BEEN PROVIDED FOR DEPARTING ACFT. WIND WAS CALM, CONDITIONS WERE PROPER FOR WAKE TO LINGER ALONG ANY DEPARTING ACFT FLT PATH. RPTR WAS MOSTLY ANGRY ABOUT BEING CAUGHT AT LOW LEVELS IN MODERATE TURB. CTL WAS MAINTAINED THROUGHOUT THE EVENT. IT WAS LONG LASTING FOR THE SIT WHICH CONTRIBUTED TO THE FLC UNEASINESS ABOUT WHAT WAS HAPPENING.
