Narrative:

When taxing out of gate, ground control said taxi runway 27L via taxiway F hold short of M-5 on taxiway M. Approaching M-5 ground said contact tower 120.75. We did, but we didn't hold short of M-5. Tower said taxi into position and hold runway 27L, and then cleared us for takeoff. Ground never said anything about not holding short of M-5 and it was not until after takeoff that I realized that we didn't hold short. I don't think that ground control still wanted us to hold short when he told us to contact tower, but I thought I would report it anyway. Problem: bad phraseology.

TWR SAID TAXI INTO POS AND HOLD RWY 27L, AND THEN CLRED US FOR TKOF. GND NEVER SAID ANYTHING ABOUT NOT HOLDING SHORT OF M-5 AND IT WAS NOT UNTIL AFTER TKOF THAT I REALIZED THAT WE DIDN'T HOLD SHORT. I DON'T THINK THAT GND CTL STILL WANTED US TO HOLD SHORT WHEN HE TOLD US TO CONTACT TWR, BUT I THOUGHT I WOULD RPT IT ANYWAY. PROB: BAD PHRASEOLOGY.
