Narrative:

Thunderstorm overhead the cheyenne airport. No special WX was taken, and national WX service did not augment thunderstorm into the ASOS until approximately 45 mins later and only after the tower advised of the situation. Lightning was observed cloud to ground approximately 1 mi north of the airport. Recommendation: NWS should pay more attention to existing WX conditions because ASOS cannot be trusted to observe the correct conditions during thunderstorm activity.
