Narrative:

First arrival push of the day at approximately XX00 am first arrival on macey arrival to atl. ASR-9 showed scattered level 4 and level 5 WX on the arrival. Coordination was initiated to accommodate aircraft needing to deviation around WX. Aircraft were advised we showed level 4 and level 5 WX on arrival. Aircraft, MD88, advised they showed no WX on their radar or visually. In center of what we thought was level 5 WX, pilot reported smooth ride with no WX around. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter indicated the displayed data could have been temperature inversion, but that it gave the appearance of WX. Reporter said that working with the data on the radar was not a distraction and that the intensity could be adjusted. Reporter stated the only distraction was the initial coordination involved to handle the traffic flow for what at first was thought to be WX. Reporter said it lasted about 1 hour and is unaware of what actually caused the problem.

Title: RPTED SIT IN WHICH THE RADAR WAS DISPLAYING LEVEL 4 AND LEVEL 5 CONDITIONS. MD88 STATED NO WX ON THEIR RADAR OR VISUALLY.

Narrative: FIRST ARR PUSH OF THE DAY AT APPROX XX00 AM FIRST ARR ON MACEY ARR TO ATL. ASR-9 SHOWED SCATTERED LEVEL 4 AND LEVEL 5 WX ON THE ARR. COORD WAS INITIATED TO ACCOMMODATE ACFT NEEDING TO DEV AROUND WX. ACFT WERE ADVISED WE SHOWED LEVEL 4 AND LEVEL 5 WX ON ARR. ACFT, MD88, ADVISED THEY SHOWED NO WX ON THEIR RADAR OR VISUALLY. IN CTR OF WHAT WE THOUGHT WAS LEVEL 5 WX, PLT RPTED SMOOTH RIDE WITH NO WX AROUND. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR INDICATED THE DISPLAYED DATA COULD HAVE BEEN TEMP INVERSION, BUT THAT IT GAVE THE APPEARANCE OF WX. RPTR SAID THAT WORKING WITH THE DATA ON THE RADAR WAS NOT A DISTR AND THAT THE INTENSITY COULD BE ADJUSTED. RPTR STATED THE ONLY DISTR WAS THE INITIAL COORD INVOLVED TO HANDLE THE TFC FLOW FOR WHAT AT FIRST WAS THOUGHT TO BE WX. RPTR SAID IT LASTED ABOUT 1 HR AND IS UNAWARE OF WHAT ACTUALLY CAUSED THE PROB.
