Narrative:

Attempted to start aircraft. Aircraft propeller 'hung' and would not complete starting process. Turned off all masters, magnetos, ignition, throttle closed, mixture rich. Pilot exited aircraft, approached propeller. With all electric off, pilot moved propeller 'counter clockwise' 2 rotations. Propeller proceeded to move clockwise and engine started. (Pilot was not attempting to propeller start aircraft.) aircraft proceed across tie- down area and struck a utility pole, with left wing, rotated 180 degrees and propeller struck the ground stopping engine. Left wing damaged, right wingtip damaged, engine stoppage. Possible problem: unknown hot magneto.

Narrative: ATTEMPTED TO START ACFT. ACFT PROP 'HUNG' AND WOULD NOT COMPLETE STARTING PROCESS. TURNED OFF ALL MASTERS, MAGNETOS, IGNITION, THROTTLE CLOSED, MIXTURE RICH. PLT EXITED ACFT, APCHED PROP. WITH ALL ELECTRIC OFF, PLT MOVED PROP 'COUNTER CLOCKWISE' 2 ROTATIONS. PROP PROCEEDED TO MOVE CLOCKWISE AND ENG STARTED. (PLT WAS NOT ATTEMPTING TO PROP START ACFT.) ACFT PROCEED ACROSS TIE- DOWN AREA AND STRUCK A UTILITY POLE, WITH L WING, ROTATED 180 DEGS AND PROP STRUCK THE GND STOPPING ENG. L WING DAMAGED, R WINGTIP DAMAGED, ENG STOPPAGE. POSSIBLE PROB: UNKNOWN HOT MAGNETO.
